Living Environment

With wide open spaces and easy access to Scotland’s bustling capital, it’s not going too far to say that East Lothian offers the best of both worlds – whether you’d rather open your curtains to beaches, bustling towns, wooded hills or quiet village lanes.

That goes for leisure pursuits too. Our rail links will get you into Edinburgh in mere minutes – with all that means for shopping, days out or nights on the tiles. And more locally, you can choose from great restaurants using the best local produce, all kinds of watersports, some of the world’s best golf courses, or just wandering through small towns and villages.

Quality housings a priority for us – in fact, some 4,800 new homes will be built before 2015. We’re recognised as providing an education that’s joined up and ambitious – and our focus on raising attainment, social inclusion and life long learning is well regarded. Of course, we’re also welcoming a new generation of students at Scotland’s next generation campus at Queen Margaret University, which opened its doors in late 2007 – Scotland’s first new university campus of the 21st century.

We’re tremendously well connected to all parts of the country, by air, rail, road and sea. So if you want or need to get away it’s easy. But we think, with all the living space we can offer, you’ll want to stay.
