Chief Executive's Department
Here we deliver key services like personnel, policy, strategic direction, communications, legal and committee services — as well as advising different departments, councillors, and public, private and voluntary sector organisations. We also have direct contact with the public through our Economic Development Unit, Local Access Points, the Contact Centre and a Community Response service.
Education and Children Services
With a vision to make a positive difference to the lives of children, young people and their families, this department aims to be a service that listens, and provides leadership, involves children, young people, carers, parents and all those concerned in the services, and provides a wide range of high quality services to all, while giving priority to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and groups in our communities.
Community Services
A safe, clean, healthy, active and caring environment for all — nothing less will do. We’re the largest department in the Council and we provide services including adult social care, community housing & property management, and community wellbeing. So we offer you the chance to become anything from a librarian to a social worker or an architect to an IT specialist.
Environment
Is there anything more important than the local environment? We don’t think so. Here, we make sure East Lothian’s sustainable, safe and attractive. Our planning team balance conservation with development. Our Transport people keep us moving safely. And Waste Services not only collect rubbish but make sure as much as possible’s recycled. We also look after food safety, health and safety at work, trading standards, property services and environmental protection.
Corporate Finance & IT
Both a corporate support body and a frontline service provider, this department provides key IT information systems and financial services to other Council departments, as well as providing revenue and benefits services to the residents of East Lothian. Internal services to the Council include accounting, budgeting, supplier management and payment, bank management, payroll, insurance and audit.
