Even if I can’t rely on Hibs winning the Scottish Cup, working with East Lothian Council gives me plenty I can rely on. I joined the council in 1990 — initially because I’d had enough of travelling into Edinburgh every
day. Pretty quickly it was clear I’d gained a whole lot more. Working with the council’s secure — but that doesn’t mean it’s not challenging or exciting. It’s also allowed me to study for
qualifications — I’ve been awarded an HNC in Civil Engineering since starting — and I certainly feel the most content and happy I’ve ever been in my working life,
and I brought 28 years’ experience with me. Of course, now instead of spending time stuck on the motorway I get to spend quality time with Charlie, my black Labrador, or getting stuck into the latest Ian Rankin novel. I really
couldn’t ask for more.
